KU observes National Education Day

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: To pay tribute to the great educationist Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and to propagate the cause of education for the upliftment of society and eradication of illiteracy in the society, University of Kashmir observed National Education Day.
On the occasion, Department of Student’s Welfare in collaboration with the Post Graduate Department of Education organised a debate with the theme ‘Societal boundaries are hampering scientific development’ in the KU’s Ibn Khaldoon auditorium.
While speaking at the valedictory function Dean Academic Affairs Prof AM Shah said that it is the responsibility of the institutions like University to provide an opportunity to the students to learn and know about the contribution of great minds who brought a change in the society.
Prof Shah said that the basic purpose of education is not only about getting professional degrees and higher qualification but to bring changes in the lives of others who are in distressing situation through positive intervention and confidence building measures.
“Dear students your aim should not be only to join university for getting degrees but to use this education in bringing positive change in other people`s lives and then only you will realize the basic aim of education,” said Prof Shah.
The Prof Nelofar khan Dean Students welfare spoke on the occasion and said that the aim of these activities is to provide a platform to the students to give vent to their talent.
The first prize in the debating competition was won by Zia Ahmad Malik from Department of Electronics KU whereas the second and third prize was bagged by Itminaan from Department of Electronics KU and Aisha Zehgeer from Department of Law KU respectively.
