JAMMU, Nov 12: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf today said that monitoring of works has become imperative to know the status and quality of works being carried out by Forest Department across the State and asked the Administrative Department to take necessary measures in this direction.
The Minister was reviewing the functioning of Soil Conservation Department at an officers meeting here today.
He said that checking of soil erosion should be priority of the department and asked them to take care of main roads where soil is eroding, particularly on national highways. He instructed them to take care of Batote-Doda road where soil is eroding due to recent heavy rains.
Stressing on framing long term projects, Mian Altaf asked the officers to complete all ongoing projects within the stipulated time frame.
Giving the details of the achievements, the Director said that the department has treated 697 hectares of land for soil erosion during last fiscal. The department has planted 4 lakh plants of different species in Jammu division while 2.23 lakh plants are targeted to be planted for current fiscal, he added.
Director Soil Conservation, M. J. Sharma, Additional Secretary Forests, Dr. G.N. Itoo, Joint Directors besides district officers of the department were present on the occasion.
