JAMMU, Nov 12: Radhay Sham Sharma, Vice-Chairman of J&K State Kissan Advisory Board interacted with the farmers of Samba and Kathua districts, who called on him at the former’s office in Jammu.
The farmers apprised Mr Sharma about various difficulties being faced by them during farming, particularly in border areas. They appealed the Vice-Chairman to direct the concerned Field Staff of Agriculture and allied sectors for reaching to the farmers for addressing their problems timely.
The farmers also demanded that weather based insurance of the crops should be initiated in their districts also so that affected people may be compensated if their crop gets damaged due to natural calamity as well as cross border firing.
They also stressed for making suitable arrangements for post harvest marketing, installation of new and replacement of worn out irrigation pumps in Kandi areas, holding Kissan Mela in border belts etc.
Radhay Sham Sharma assured the farmers that he would take up their genuine issues with the concerned authorities for mitigating the problems at earliest possible. He advised the farmers to use new and innovative agricultural techniques for better produce.
The Vice-Chairman announced that Kissan Awareness Camp will be held in the border belts very soon. Besides, Mr Sharma added, the Chief Minister will be urged to direct the fertilizer companies to initiate village adaptation scheme by providing free of cost seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and latest know how about the technologies in agriculture and allied sectors.
Prominent among others, who were present in the meeting, included K K Proach, Rajesh Bittu, Prof P D Shastri, Som Raj, Diwan Khajuria, Dr Indu Bhushan, Romesh Chander, Dharam Paul, Gouri Shanker, Jagdish Paul, Shiv Dev Singh and Faqir Chand.
