Court convicts man for rape, murder of minor

Srinagar, Mar 10: The Additional Sessions Judge Srinagar, Renu Dogra, today convicted a man for the rape and murder of a minor in Srinagar.
The court convicted the accused Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Rashid Sheikh of Akhrajpora Rajbagh Srinagar for kidnapping, raping and murder of a minor girl.
A 10 year old girl was raped by him in the Rajbagh area in 2007 for which a case was registed in Police Station Rajbagh.
“As a consequence of all the above discussion this court is of the opinion that prosecution has successfully proved the accused guilty and the chain of circumstances is also complete pointing out towards the guilt of the accused and none else. Therefore the accused is liable to be convicted for the offences punishable under Sections 363,376 and 302 of RPC. This court accordingly convict the accused Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh S/o Abdul Rashid Sheikh R/o Akhrajpora Rajbagh Srinagar in the case FIR No.76 of 2007 of Police Station Rajbagh for the commission of the offences punishable under Sections 363,376 and 302 of RPC,” the court said.
The court ordered the convict be sent to Judicial custody in Central Jail Srinagar and shall be produced before this court on next date of hearing. Registry is directed to provide copy of the judgement to the accused. Let the file come up for hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment and be listed on 14th of March 2023,” the judgment reads.
“It is established that accused at the time of occurrence was major a grown up aged more than 20 years. He has committed the heinous and barbarous crime of rape and murder of a girl aged about 7 to 10 years who was not so much healthy. She was kidnapped in a planned manner by the accused who was her distant relative and were residing in the same house by offering her toffees some of which were found lying at the place of occurrence, because she was innocent and could not understand the design of the accused. She became helpless victim of a diabolic person whom the child could trust to be her own family member,” the court said.
