Sunil Kumar first deaf and mute student of J&K to get MCA

JAMMU, Mar 11: Sunil Kumar became the first deaf and mute student of Jammu and Kashmir to graduate with a Master’s degree in Computer Applications (MCA).
Sunil Kumar who hails from Bari Brahamana is an alumnus of the School for Hearing Handicapped in Jammu, run by J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra (SKK), a well-known NGO.
Sunil Kumar’s father, Raj Kumar, is a farmer. Previously, two other alumni from the same school did BCA, while two girls secured jobs in the J&K Finance Department.
Sunil chose to pursue a Master’s in Computer Applications from Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar. He graduated this year with over 56% marks.
The SKK provides free education to all speech handicapped students in J&K and encourages them to pursue higher education by reimbursing 50% of their semester fees. A separate fund has been created for this purpose, and four alumni have already benefited from this initiative.
KB Jandial, the President of SKK, has offered Sunil Kumar a job at the school for speech handicapped to encourage more divyangs to acquire higher education for better placement.
Jandial has also urged the corporate sector in Jammu to consider hiring these specially talented divyangs for various assignments.
