HC seeks status report in drugs scam

Srinagar, Nov 13: Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed the Government to file latest status report on next date of hearing with regard to sanction for prosecution of the Health Department officers against whom challaned in spurious drug scam has been filed.
A Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court comprising Justices Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice M H Attar also directed the Government to file status report with regard to measures taken on drug policy adopted by the Government last year.
The report said the Government of India constituted an expert committee which submitted its report early this month, and the recommendations of the committee have been adopted by the Government to curb spurious drug menace.
The counsel for petitioners pointed out the ground position has not improved despite strengthening of the inspecting staff of the Health Department.
The Court said: “A report is required to be filed about the working of the inspecting staff, and which will clearly show how inspection is being carried out and how provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act are being implemented on ground.”
