JAMMU, Mar 16: Jammu Province Peoples Forum (JPPF), a strong voice of Dogras and a common platform of all civil society members to raise a united voice for the welfare of the people of Jammu province, celebrated 177th Foundation/ Raising Day of Jammu and Kashmir by organizing a programme at its Head Office, Talab Tillo, here today.
A large number of people from different organizations participated in the event. Paviter Singh, while addressing the gathering, said that since inception of the erstwhile J&K state no one bothered to celebrate this historic day of importance, we are astonished to see that the public has almost forgotten that when and how this beautiful state came into existence. He said even the Government also never bothered to organize a function on this historic day for the reasons best known to them.
He said JPPF took an initiative in the year 2010 of celebrating accession day on 26th October every year and now the accession day is celebrated in a big way not only in the State but outside the State too even in few other countries too where Dogras are residing.
Singh He further added that 16th March is the historic and very important day in the history of Jammu and Kashmir when Maharaja Gulab Singh Ji on 16th March 1846 purchased Kashmir from Britishers under Amritsar Treaty after paying 75 lakhs and became the first/founder Maharaja of entire J&K state.
The JPPF team requested one and all, especially educational institutions and social organizations, to celebrate the Raising Day every year with full enthusiasm and educate the coming generations about the history of the state.
