JAMMU, Mar 16: Music and Dance Clubs under the umbrella of Utsaah-The Clubs, University of Jammu in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts (IGNCA) Regional branch Jammu organized Duggar musical evening in which the students and employees from different departments and Institute of Music and Fine Arts, JU performed in Dogri singing, Dogri dance and innovative Duggar band under the aegis of Duggar Darpan.
The mesmerizing musical evening was attended by world-renowned Dogri Singer Seema Anil Seghal as the chief guest, Prof Bechan Lal (Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu) was special guest while many senior academicians and officers also graced the occasion. Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, presided over the event.
Seema Anil Sehgal appreciated the efforts of the Dance and Music Club of JU for showcasing of Duggar culture through dance and singing by students. She further said that such types of activities help us to connect with our roots and one can connect to our own culture.
Prof Umesh Rai, in his remarks, said that this is the need of the hour to promote and preserve our culture by organizing such types of events involving local artists and renowned personalities of the field to provide new heights to our culture. He further said that these activities should be a regular feature of the University and region as well.
Earlier, Prof Satnam Kour (convener, Utsaah) presented welcome address. The students from various departments of the University including IMFA showcased the rich culture of Jammu through dance and music.
In the event, Dogri Dance was presented by Ritika, Sunidhi Banerjee, Sonia, Manu, Preeti, Anjuman, Anshika, Ayushi, Sabha, Priyanka, Sunidhi, Akshay, Umesh, Shivam and Ajay. The dance was choreographed by Ankush Padha student of Kathak Dance Department (JU) under the supervision of Dr Priya Dutta, coordinator, Dance Club.
