DFCO organizes awareness program on drug abuse

KATHUA, Mar 16: The Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) today organized an awareness program at Hatli Morh (Kathua) on the prevention of drug abuse, role of pharmacist fraternity and supply of safe and efficacious medicines to the end users within the ambit of law.
The objective of the programme, which was attended by prominent citizens, State Drugs Controller, Deputy Drugs Controller, Deputy Drugs Controller ((I&L), Assistant Drugs Controller Kathua/Samba, Assistant Drugs Controller (HQ) Jammu, Drugs Control Officers and member of Chemists Association of Kathua, was to strengthen action and cooperation of Pharma fraternity in achieving a society free of drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Lotika Khajuria (State Drugs Controller) invited an urgent attention of stakeholders towards the issue. She informed that the Government has initiated pro active measures by constituting District Level Monitoring Committees under NOCORD to bring an end to this menace and rehabilitate the affected youth. She said that it will go a long way in dealing with the disastrous problem within our society.
Mohd Iqbal Palla (Deputy Drugs Controller, Jammu) in his address said that such programs definitely help to aware the common masses about the drug abuse which is destroying our future generations. He impressed upon Assistant Drugs Controller Kathua to lay down surprise nakkas at Lakhanpur for random check of UT bound consignments of pharmaceutical preparations.
Poornima Kaboo (Drugs Analyst) informed that Department in its endeavor to curb the misuse of such narcotic and psychotropic substances has started a massive drive wherein surprise inspections of chemist shops are being conducted to ensure that such pharmaceutical preparations are being stocked for sale in permissible quantities under rules.
Renuka Rana, Deputy Drugs Controller (I&L) Jammu impressed upon the trade fraternity to switch over to computerized system of billing for maintenance of records and install CCTV cameras in light of guidelines issued by the Government.
ADC Kathua Rajesh Anguralla, Archana Mujoo, ADC (HQ) Jammu and Ramesh Monga (president, Chemist Association, Kathua) also spoke on the occasion.
