Expanding Healthcare Services

Statistics presented at a high level review of Health and Medical Education Sector reveals that after feeling satisfied with the expansion of healthcare services, the State Government is out for consolidation, upgrading and fast delivery. At the same time emphasis is on quality service. The Government is taking into account all aspects of medical services, incentives to doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, medical equipment, super speciality services and more especially streamlining of medical services in rural and in accessible areas of the State. Many district hospitals are being upgraded to reduce pressure on main hospitals. As many as 122 hospital projects are under progress across the State at an estimated cost of Rs.1481.62 crore. Moreover, 600 new Sub-Centres including 238 in hilly and remote areas have been proposed under State PIP, 2013-14. It is noteworthy that Union Health Ministry has selected 6 high priority districts of the State for support of United Nation Development Partner (UNDP), Norway-India partner Initiatives (NIPI). Eleven Medical Mobile units have been provided for high focus and far flung areas of Kupwara, Anantnag, Baramulla, Leh, Udhampur, Rajouri, Reasi, Doda, Poonch, Ramban and Kishtwar. This gives an insight into the efforts of the Government in bringing healthcare services to the remotest areas of the State. Central Government and particularly the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been frugal and munificent in meeting many demands of the State in regard to improving and expanding healthcare services.
