JAIPUR, Nov 16: As many as 612 candidates have withdrawn their candidature for December 1 assembly polls from various constituencies in Rajasthan even as deadline for withdrawals passed off this afternoon.
With this, 2102 contestants remained in the fray on 200 seats of the state legislature that are to be filled in the polls, an election office spokesman said here this evening.
Even after the expiry of dead line for withdrawals, several prominent rebels from both the ruling Congress and the rival BJP, still remained in the fray in various constituencies.
They include Minister of State Rajkumar Sharma (Nawalgarh), Sitting Congress MLA Rita Chaudhary (Mandawa), former Speaker estranged BJP leader Sumitra Singh (Jhunjhunu), former BJP MLA Rajkumari Sharma (Sikar), former Congress Minister Harendra Mirdha former Minister Surendra Vyas (Malpura), former MP and estranged BJP leader Vishnu Modi(Srimadhopur) and estranged BJPMLA Hanuman Beniwal (Khimsar).
There are many rebels in the fray both from the BJP and the Congress,however, AICC General Secretary Dr CP Joshi and BJP state unit incharge sitting MP Kaptan Singh Solanki both are of the view that only about half a dozen of them do matter in the electoral prospects for the candidates of both the parties.
However, presence of the rebels have enhanced difficulties for many leaders like Congress State president Dr Chandrabhan (Mandawa), Union Minister Sisram Ola’s Minister son Brijendra Singh in Jhunjhunu and Speaker Deependra Singh Shekhawat and his BJP rival Jhabbar Singh in Srimadhopur. (UNI)
