LEH, Mar 24: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), today conducted a meeting with departmental secretaries to review the progress of development works in their respective departments.
As per a statement, the Lieutenant Governor inquired about the status of the saturation of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the region and asked if 100 percent saturation could be achieved by 2025.
Dr Pawan Kotwal, the Principal Secretary of Health, informed the Lieutenant Governor that there were currently 340 TB cases in Ladakh. He also shared that Truenat machines were being used to detect TB cases and efforts were being made to make Ladakh a TB-free region by the end of 2023.
During the meeting, the Lieutenant Governor also emphasized the need to sensitize people of Ladakh about maintaining clean surroundings by raising awareness through various cleanliness drives.
He also inquired about necessary measures that could be taken to address the issue of single-use plastic. Saugat Biswas, the Commissioner Secretary of Rural Development Department, shared a plan being prepared by the Department to install water vending machines to reduce plastic pollution in Ladakh.
The Lieutenant Governor further inquired about merging the Grievance Redressal Cell with the Immediate Assistance Cell to be set up by the Administration for the quick redressal of issues faced by the people of Ladakh.
The meeting was attended by several officials, including Advisor Umang Narula; Principal Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Principal Secretary, Sanjiv Khirwar; Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Ladakh, Satish Khandare among other officers.
