Apropos news item (D.E Nov15,2014) about the steps proposed to be taken by the State Government for up gradation and expansion of health care in the State. As a result of that, some additional 600 new health centres are shortly going to be opened in the State. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while stating this in Jammu also advised that latest and new machinery and equipment must be used properly for treatment of the patients. So far so good, but what about the chronic shortage of Doctors and specialists ? Buildings and display of machinery are of no practical use unless the qualified and trained professionals are posted in such health centres. A law should be made that a doctor shall have compulsorily to work in far flung areas / rural areas for a period of minimum three years.
