SAMBA, Mar 31: Samba Police has arrested two top interstate heroin suppliers and recovered huge Indian currency amounting to Rs 16,71,520 as well as heroin (chitta) worth Rs 20000 (approxmately) from their possession. The vehicle used in illicit narco-smuggling has also been seized.

“A police party comprising of ASI Rajeev Singh and Senior Grade Constable Bahadur Singh under the supervision of PSI Vineet Singh Rakwal and SHO Ghagwal Bharat Bhushan signaled to stop a Punjab number vehicle Tata Nexon plying suspiciously from Samba towards Kathua side at very high speed at Tapyal naka point but the driver tried to escape checking at naka point,” a police spokesman said.
He said, however, the vehicle was chased and stopped. “The checking of the vehicle and personal search of the duo was conducted in the presence of Magistrate Charanjeet Singh Raina and gazetted police officer (Deputy SP Headquarters Mohd Usman) following proper procedure, during which Indian currency notes amounting to rupees 16,71,520 and heroin (‘chitta’) worth Rs 20,000 approximately was recovered from the possession of the two persons travelling in the vehicle.
The spokesperson said that the vehicle was seized on the spot and the accused persons were arrested. “In this connection, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered at Police station Ghagwal and investigation started,” he said, adding, the investigation of the case is being monitored by Additional SP Samba Surinder Choudhary.
The arrested interstate heroin suppliers have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Raju and Happy, son of Malkeet Singh and Ranjeet Singh alias Kalu son of Darshan Singh, both residents of Devidass Pura (tehsil and district Amritsar).
SSP Samba Benam Tosh said that during the last two and half months, total 17 top suppliers of heroin (‘chitta’) including three lady heroin suppliers have been arrested in Samba district and action under law has been initiated against several other narco-suppliers involved in the illicit narco-trade.
