KATHUA, Apr 2: A newly married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstance at her in-laws’ residence here on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Laxmi Devi wife of Sanjeev Kumar (an army personnel), of Buddhi, was found hanging in a room. She had been married for only five months.
As per deceased’s mother, the former had alerted her via phone that she was being harassed by her in-laws and feared for her life.
“Upon arriving at her home, we found her locked from inside the room,” the mother of the deceased woman said, while referring to her daughter, adding, “with the help of the neighbours, we somehow broke open the door only to discover her lifeless body”.
The mother of the deceased woman further said that she took her daughter to GMC Kathua, where doctors declared the latter as dead on arrival.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings and have quizzed the husband of the deceased, Sanjeev Kumar.
