Didn’t receive any proposal to extend Metro Rail Project to Samba, Kathua: GoI

JAMMU, Apr 4: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, has stated that it has not received any proposal from Jammu and Kashmir Government to extend Metro Rail Project to AIIMS Vijaypur, and District Headquarters of Samba and Kathua.
In reply to an unstarred question of BJP MP, Engineer Gulam Ali, about Government’s proposal, if any, to extend Metro Rail project to AIIMS Vijaypur, district HQ Samba and Kathua, the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, told the Rajya Sabha on April 3, 2023: “no such proposal to extend Metro Rail Project to AIIMS Vijaypur, District of HQ Samba and Kathua has been received from UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Union Minister said that as per the Metro Rail Policy, 2017, respective State Government/UT is responsible for initiating metro rail projects.
The Central Government, he said, considers financial assistance for such projects in cities and urban agglomerates, based on feasibility of the proposal and availability of resources, as and when posed by the concerned State Government/UT.
Replying another question about the progress of metro/mono rail projects in Jammu and Srinagar cities and timeline for completion of the metro projects, Kaushal Kishore, the Union Minister said, “the proposals received from UT Government of Jammu & Kashmir for Metro Rail Projects of Jammu and Srinagar are under various stages of appraisal and approval”.
