Rains lash Kashmir, snowfall in hills

SRINAGAR, Apr 4: Kashmir valley was lashed by heavy rains since last night and hills had fresh snowfall making people shiver.
There were heavy intermittent rains at most places of Kashmir and light snowfall in the hills.

The snowfall has led to accumulation of snow on Bandipora-Gurez road. Authorities today rescued 53 vehicles, along with their drivers and passengers, who were trapped in the snow at Razdan Top on the Bandipora-Gurez road.
An official said that the rescue operation was carried out this morning following information about the stranded vehicles in adverse weather conditions.
He said that the police personnel immediately swung into action and braved the challenging weather conditions to rescue the stranded vehicles and their passengers, taking them to a safer place.
The official said that the traffic on Bandipora-Gurez road has been suspended due to heavy snowfall, with Dawar in Gurez receiving around 3 inches of snow, and the Tulail area in the region receiving more than 6 inches of snow. A MeT official said that on April 5-6, there is possibility of a brief spell of rain at scattered places of J&K towards late afternoon and evening.
From April 7-12, he said, mainly dry weather (60-70% chance) was expected in entire J&K.
Srinagar recorded a low of 6.9°C against 7.9°C the previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal for the city.
Qazigund, recorded a low of 6.4°C against 5.1°C the previous night and it was 1.3°C above normal for the town.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 3.2°C against 3.0°C the previous night and it was 1.5°C above normal for the famous tourist resort. Kokernag recorded a low of 5.4 °C against 5.2°C the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the place.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.5°C against 0.5°C the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the skiing resort.
In Kupwara town, the mercury settled at 4.4°C against 7.2°C the previous night and it was 0.8°C below normal for the town.
Leh recorded a low of minus 2.5°C.
