RAJOURI, Apr 6: A day-long CME workshop on medical oncology was organized, here today by Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri to promote cancer prevention and early detection.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, along with Brigadier Dr Ajay Chandra and Dr Haseeb Mughal (DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range), inaugurated the Workshop in the presence of various medical professionals. The event was organized under the supervision of Principal GMC Rajouri Dr A S Bhatia and Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajjar, and supported by the district administration Rajouri.
DC Rajouri, in his speech, emphasized the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer. He also reiterated the commitment of the district administration to provide the best possible healthcare services to the population of Rajouri, as well as the surrounding districts that rely on GMC Rajouri.
Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Bhupinder Kumar, also interacted with the participants through virtual mode. He laid stress on screening for early detection of cancer cases. He further highlighted the rise in life expectancy despite the increasing number of cancer cases in India. He mentioned that efforts are being made to introduce the cervical cancer vaccination in India.
Brigadier Ajay Chandra, while speaking on the occasion, placed on record the phenomenal rise in the quality of health services in the district with the establishment of GMC Rajouri while Dr Haseeb Mughal expressed hope that this workshop would provide much-needed insight to the professionals dealing with cancer. Dr Mughal further emphasized the need for affordable, permanent care for cancer patients and advised doctors to be more compassionate while handling patients.
Director Coordination, New Colleges, Dr Yash Pal Sharma, emphasized the significance of holding such workshops and enhancing medical education.
Notable guest speakers who attended the workshop and provided insight are Dr Meenakshi Khajuria, Prof (Dr) Shabnam Choudhary, Prof (Dr) Rajeev Gupta, Prof (Dr) Ashutosh Gupta, Prof (Dr) Vishal Tandon, Dr Abdul Hakim, Dr Qazi Najeeb Ahmed, Dr Kanishtha Sharma, Dr Mehmood Bajar and Dr Suhail Banday.
