Despite increase, COVID situation in J&K well in control: CS

Srinagar, Apr 7: Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta today said there was no reason to panic as COVID-19 cases surged in J&K and that, if necessary, the required steps will be taken promptly by the Government and the concerned department.
Dr Mehta who was speaking to media outside of a World Health Day event here underlined that there is no need to fear, noting that the necessary measures will be taken while highlighting that the Government has been highly successful in controlling prior waves of COVID-19 pandemic effectively.
“People should have the entire faith that, in times of necessity, every action feasible will be taken. However, there is currently no cause for concern. Generally speaking, we adhere to Indian Public Health Standards. (IPHS). Not entirely, but we will examine where the holes are and fill them all very soon. In general, we are extremely comfortable right now,” he said.
On the occasion, Bhupinder Kumar, J&K’s Secretary for Health and Medical Education said that there had been an increasing number of COVID-19 cases recorded in J&K over the past few weeks, with over 230 cases currently active. However, he noted that only 12 people in J&K have been hospitalised.
There is no reason to fear, he continued since we have encountered and successfully dealt with similar circumstances during the past three years. “Our staff is highly qualified, and our hospitals are well-equipped.”
