Burglary module busted in Akhnoor; five held

AKHNOOR, Apr 8: Police in Jammu’s Akhnoor area claimed to have busted a burglary module and arrested five people involved in different thefts earlier reported in the town.
With the arrest of the accused, police also claimed to have recovered an amount of Rs 38930 stolen from different temples in the town. They also claimed that more amounts would be recovered in the days to come when investigation in the case proceeds further.
A police spokesperson said that a gang of thieves was very active in the Akhnoor Sub-Division for the past one month and was committing thefts in the temples and other religious places, thereby creating religious animosity among the people besides an increased public outrage.
Taking note of these incidents, he said, special teams of police headed by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Sharma, assited by SHO Akhnoor Inspector Harjeet Singh, Incharge Police Post Jourian, PSI Karnail Singh, and Incharge Police Post Palanwala, PSI Vijay Kumar, were constituted by SP Rural Rahul Charak to investigate into the theft cases.
During the course of investigation, he said, the composite teams rounded up many accused persons with the help of CCTV cameras, tower dump, and human intelligence, and finally zeroed on five suspects identified as Mohammad Ashraf and Mohammad Javed of Khonmoh Tehsil, Patan Chowk, Sriangar, at present Khour, Jammu; Abdul Razaq and Shabir Ahmed of Kandayal, Jourian, and Mohammad Mukhtayar of Troti, Jourian.
He further said that the accused confessed to their involvement in the different thefts when they were put to thorough questioning.
“On their disclosure, police have recovered an amount of Rs 38930 as they have spent rest of the stolen amount,” he said.
“More arrests and seizure are in offing when the investigation in the case proceeds further,” added the police spokesperson.
