Srinagar, Apr 8: Officials from the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Anantnag today discovered violations in 30 school buses. The breaches were discovered during a drive by the MVD Anantnag’s enforcement division on the KP Road to Mattan stretch.
During the drive, upto 60 buses were examined. Six buses were running on unpaid tolls, one Oxford Presentation truck was found to be overcrowded, and four school buses were found to be driving on invalid licences. Six school buses were operating illegally. The MVD has also begun a campaign against private cars that bring pupils to different schools, and two eco-vans were seen transporting pupils from the Euro Presentation School without proper documentation.
The department impounded the vehicles, and a notice of RC suspension was also given. Aside from school buses, MVD investigators also arrested several passenger automobiles for breaking several laws.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer for Anantnag Dr Mohammad Zubair Latoo (JKAS) stated that the campaign against private and school buses will also continue in the days to come.
He emphasised the importance of schoolchildren’s safety and pleaded with parents and the administration to avoid endangering pupils’ lives by transporting them in buses with invalid documentation.
