GVK management violating labour laws: CPPWU

KISHTWAR, Nov 21: Chenab Power Project Workers Union (CPPWU), Kishtwar, has strongly criticized the management of GVK and its sub-contractor L&T engaged for the execution of 850 MW Rattle H E Project Drabshalla for violating the labour laws and thereafter not conceding the genuine demands of the workers engaged in the project.
Joginder Bhandari, chairman of the Union said that the management of the project is not providing all the facilities admissible under labour laws and the company is also not providing genuine rates to their workers, which has caused a brewing resentment among the working classes.
He demanded implementation of labour laws in the project and urged upon the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Kishtwar, to visit the Project area and ensure proper implementation of labour laws enforced in the State.
He also demanded that one member of a each family whose land has come under project should be provided permanent employment in GVK instead of L&T and their salaries and other allowances should be fixed by the GVK corporate office.
