Jains protest after desecration of Mahavir Chowk

JAMMU, Apr 12: Members of Jain community here today staged a peaceful protest demonstration against the desecration of a Chowk at Gandhi Nagar area which was named after Bhagwan Mahavir Ji.
The protesters raised slogans against the administration and demanded strict action against the elements responsible for hurting the sentiments of Jain community by damaging Mahavir Chowk and throwing garbage there.
They demanded that the government should repair the damage caused to the place.
Smelling conspiracy another protester told reporters that for the last four years they are witnessing the same mischief at Mahavir Chowk which also contains religious symbols of Jains.
“Every year we bring the issue into the notice of police and they say that a mentally retarded man behind all this whom they have now lifted,” a protester informed.
Other protesters said that the Chowk is a centrally located place and garbage at this place gives a bad look to the area also.
