JAMMU, Apr 14: BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office successfully organized (5th in a row) 2-day Residential Training Program for mentors of Standards Clubs of Kendriya Vidyalayas of Jammu Region and Govt Polytechnic College Poonch at its Branch office.
Tilak Raj, Director & Head, Branch Office stated that children are the future of a strong, vibrant and dynamic nation. The mentor acts as the guiding force to get the activities done under the standards club in a manner to channelize their creativity and enhance their scientific temperament. It is, therefore, imperative that the mentors themselves understand the concepts behind standards and their role in the quality ecosystem.
With this vision, BIS JKBO conducted the training program in which technical lectures on overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization at national and international level, types of standardization and Standards, benefits of standardization, objectives and guidelines for Standards Clubs, role and responsibilities of Mentors were delivered by Pankaj Atri, Scientist-D and Hitesh Yadav, Scientist-B of BIS JKBO.
During the Residential Training Program, features of BIS Website, Manakonline Portal, Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards and BIS Care App were demonstrated to the participants with examples followed by classroom/group activity on Standards Writing on variety of subjects covering different types. The groups of mentors prepared draft standards on subjects given to them and presented to other groups which were deliberated viz-a-viz published Indian Standards on the subjects.
After the second day session, mentors visited M/s Shakti Tools, Bari Brahmana where the process of manufacture of TMT bars was shown to them and quality testing of the product as per BIS norms was also explained. The training was very much appreciated by the mentors as this helped them understand the structure and technicalities of a standard.
