SRINAGAR, Apr 16: Meteorological Department predicts widespread light to moderate rains over Kashmir valley and isolated light rain over Jammu division during the next 24 hours, officials said.
Most parts of Kashmir valley were lashed by light rains coupled with gusty winds disrupting normal activities during the past 24 hours.
MeT predicts rain or thunderstorm very likely at scattered places from late afternoon Sunday onwards while light to moderate rain, Snowfall over higher reaches is likely with main activity during April 17-18.
It said during this wet spell, thunderstorm with strong gusty winds reaching 20-30Kmph and Hailstorm are also possible at some places of Jammu and Kashmir. This wet spell is due to Western Disturbance over the northern region.
There is a possibility of temporary disruption of surface transportation especially over hilly and snowbound areas on April 17-18, the MeT office said, adding the wet spell is likely to waterlogging in low lying areas and can cause damage to Orchards.
It said there would be an abrupt fall in day temperature by 7-8 degree Celsius during the period also.
Regarding the rainfall, the MeT office said Srinagar received traces, Qazigund had 1.6mm of rainfall, Pahalgam 2.1mm, Kupwara 0.4mm, Kokernag 0.2mm, Gulmarg 4.4mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours till 0830hours today.
Srinagar recorded a low of 10.9 degree Celsius which was 3.0 degree Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
Qazigund recorded 7.9 degree Celsius which was 1.3 degree Celsius above normal the gateway of Kashmir while tourist hot spot of Pahalgam recorded a low of 5.2 degree Celsius and it was 1.8 degree Celsius above normal.
Kokernag 8.6 degree Celsius, Kupwara 10.2 degree Celsius and ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of 3.8 degree Celsius on Sunday, the MeT office said.
