SRINAGAR, Apr 19: Ashok Bhat, district president BJP, Srinagar today visited Mangleshwar Bhairav temple at Baba Dam, Srinagar and showed serious concern over the insanitation in the area where drainage water of various areas gets stagnated creating health hazards for the visitors as well as devotees coming to the temple.
He said that he was deeply pained to see the shabby and dirty surroundings with foul smell all around the temple. Drains of every household of the vicinity are directed towards the temple which is a sorry state of affairs and depicts irresponsible execution by the Sewerage and Drainage Department. Although there are clear cut directions from the Court of law that no drainage should be directed towards the sacred place, the authorities have ignored the same. He said height of the matter is that fountains have been installed on the dam which has contaminated water with foul smell and most of the households in the vicinity dump their garbage in this dam.
This unplanned and irresponsible execution by the concerned authority is mere wastage of public money and needs to be investigated at higher level by LG administration, he said. Besides, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and DC Srinagar are also requested to direct the concerned authorities to take corrective measures and stop drain water from coming into the temple surroundings.
He also demanded that steps should be taken for cleaning and beautification of the dam as it looks like a bad patch in the heart of the Smart City.
