The brothers were shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar where Shabir Ahmad was declared as dead while Mohammad Yaseen was admitted with injuries.
Police said the blast appeared to have been caused by a rusted device which the brothers reportedly saw in the forest area and took it to their house.
However, whether anyone gave the device to brothers will also be investigated though such chances are remote, they said.
Police have collected splinters of the blast from the house for examination. Blast and Forensic experts also visited the spot for examination of the site.
A case has been registered at local police station for further investigations.
Some Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the militants are active in Kishtwar and Doda districts but they are unable to strike due to strict surveillance being maintained by police and paramilitary personnel.
Meanwhile, body of the victim was handed over to the family after post-mortem in the District Hospital.
