Enhanced ex-gratia for NoKs of CPMF

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved an increase in ex-gratia relief for the Next of Kins (NoKs) of local Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF) personnel who die in the line of duty. This follows a similar increase for NoKs of local Defence Force personnel. The increase in ex-gratia relief for the NoKs of the CPMF personnel will be the same as that of the Defence Force personnel.
Ex-gratia relief is a form of financial assistance provided to the next of kin of a deceased person. It is typically offered as a goodwill gesture rather than as a legal obligation and is meant to provide some form of relief or support to the family members of the deceased. Ex-gratia relief can be particularly beneficial to the kin of CPMF personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty, in addition to numerous other benefits to the NoKs. In addition to the emotional trauma of losing a family member, they may also have to deal with the loss of the primary breadwinner in the family. This additional relief can help ease some of these financial burdens by providing the family with a lump sum payment or other forms of financial support. This can provide ongoing support for the family in the months and years following the loss of their loved one.
The different ex-gratia relief amounts for different security agencies may have an impact on the morale of the personnel belonging to the agencies that receive lower amounts. It may create a feeling of inequality and unfairness among the security personnel and their families. This may harm their motivation and dedication to their duties. It may also be seen as a recognition of the sacrifice made by the personnel in the line of duty. Overall, an increase from five lakhs to twenty-five lakhs is a timely gesture and gives much emotional and moral relief to the kin.
