JAMMU, Apr 21: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony today demanded compensation for affected farmers after the hail devastated their crops across the vast stretches.
In a statement issued today, the senior AAP leader maintained that he himself visited several fields and found that damage caused to crops due to incessant rains and last night’s hailstorm is colossal. He demanded relief for the farmer community on the pattern of Punjab where the Government is providing Rs 15000 per acre on the losses incurred due to vagaries of weather.
Tony appealed the administration to start the assessment of the losses and take the decision as soon as possible to bail out distressed farmers. He said that the latest spell of hailstorm had caused a huge loss to standing crops in various villages.
“The distressed farmers are now eyeing the UT Government for help. Their crops had been completely destroyed. The Government should provide adequate compensation to each affected farmer as soon as possible for bailing the tiller community out of this crisis,” said Tony.
