JAMMU, Nov 25: Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Jammu Region is organizing the annual two-day Red Cross Mela-cum-Raffle Draw from December 14, 2013 at Police Gulshan Ground, Jammu.
This was apprised by Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu, who is also Chairman Regional Red Cross Society, while chairing a meeting convened to discuss the arrangements for the annual mela-cum Raffle show, here today.
He said that the objective of organizing the Red Cross Mela was to create awareness among the general masses regarding Red Cross Society and generate funds for the welfare activities of the society.
He stressed for greater involvement of social organizations and youth in extending service to downtrodden and those facing distress due to manmade or natural calamities besides providing services to destitute, orphans and needy people.
Threadbare discussions were held with regard to arrangements for uninterrupted power and water supply, security, sanitation, fire services, medicare at the venue during the mela days.
He directed the Municipal authorities to make available mobile toilets units and deploy additional safai karamcharies to ensure cleanliness in and around the venue. The Traffic Department was asked to ensure smooth flow of traffic to contain congestions/traffic jams in the area.
The meeting was informed that near about 50 stalls would be installed and offered to various Government and private agencies for displaying their products during the mela days.
To make the event more attractive, various Government and private schools and other organizations would put up Joy Rides and organize Magic Show, cultural items, Photo Exhibitions and Bhajan Sandha etc. Inter school dance competition, open song competition, Baby Show, BSF, CRPF, JKP Bands, Sham-e-Gazal, Photo Exhibition etc would be some other highlights of the Mela.
Secretary Regional Red Cross Society, Anil Padha apprised that this year the bumper prize of Rs 1.25 lakh besides other attractive consolation prizes would be given to the winners of the Raffle Draw.
The Divisional Commissioner asked the concerned to work with great synergy and maintain close liaison with each other to make the event a grand success.
