JAMMU, Apr 29: Dr Rakesh K Gupta, the Principal and Dean of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu, has highlighted the focus on patient care, academics, and research at the college.
Speaking at a conference with 13 keynote speakers from across India and 200 other faculty and speakers, Dr Gupta emphasized the importance of research and development in the dental field, particularly in the areas of oro-dental disease research, 3D printing, digital impressions, laser dentistry, intraoral scanners, AI, robotics surgery and regenerative dentistry.
Dr Gupta revealed that the college is in the process of signing an MoU with IIT Jammu and is also exploring collaborations with IIM Jammu and Jammu AIIMS for collective research in the field of dentistry. These collaborations will help to improve research and development in the dental industry and ensure that the benefits reach the common masses.
The development of new tools and technologies is making dental treatments more efficient, accurate, and less invasive, improving outcomes for patients and making dental care more comfortable and convenient.
He highlighted the significant impact of 3D printing on the dental industry, allowing for the creation of custom dental implants, bridges, and crowns tailored to fit the unique shape and size of a patient’s teeth. He also mentioned the popularity of intraoral cameras, which enable dentists to see areas of the mouth that are difficult to see with the naked eye.
He said AI is increasingly being used in dentistry to improve diagnosis, treatment, planning, and outcomes for patients.
He further said that AI algorithms can analyze patient data, such as X-rays, CT scans, and medical histories, to identify patterns and make predictions about future outcomes.
Dr Gupta explained that AI can be used to identify early signs of dental decay or gum diseases, helping dentists to identify the best treatment options for each patient based on their unique needs and characteristics.
To ensure that dental educators and students keep pace with these developments, Dr Gupta highlighted the need to provide training on the latest innovations in dentistry.
He also emphasized the importance of mentoring relationships, exposure to all areas of clinical dentistry, stress management, and extracurricular activities.
By providing a vibrant ecosystem for students, Dr Gupta believes that Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu can resolve the burning issues facing students and produce highly skilled dental professionals who can provide better services to the common people.
