SRINAGAR, May 2: The ICDS Supervisors from across Kashmir staged a protest today, demanding the release of their salaries that have been pending for the last nine months.
The J&K ICDS Supervisors Union organized the protest, with a number of supervisors appearing in the Press Enclave, raising slogans in support of their demands and urging authorities to take note of their plight.
“We have never been given salaries on time, and it is normal for our salaries to remain pending for months altogether. Even on the occasion of Eid, our families had nothing; our kids did not wear new clothes because we had no money,” said Abida Var, President of the J&K ICDS Supervisors Union.
Var alleged that ICDS Supervisors have been subjected to bias for decades, and those holding high posts are hardly bothered about their plight and the suffering of their families. “We work hard throughout the month, but the salaries are hardly released, and that does not bother the higher-ups at all; our Director is also a woman, can’t she feel our pain,” she said.
Var emphasized that their protest is not just a usual one, rather, it depicts the pain and agony of the supervisors. She demanded that their salaries be streamlined so that the process is made hassle-free, “and we do not have to face issues every time.”
The protestors urged the LG administration, Chief Secretary, and Director ICDS to take steps to release the pending salaries. “We are not ready to accept the lollipop of one month’s salaries; rather, the whole of the pending salaries must be released,” they said.
They said that the issue is a cause for concern, as it not only affects their livelihood but also their families’ well-being. “The authorities must take note of their plight and ensure that the salaries are released without further delay,” the protestors said.
