SRINAGAR, May 2: The J&K Cements Retired Employees Welfare Association (JKCREWA) in its meeting here, today has expressed grave concern over the delaying tactics of the authorities in settling their demands especially payment of their legitimate retirement dues.
The meeting said that the Government’s delaying tactics in releasing their retirement dues has led to the miseries of the retired employees of the JK Cements and since then they have been running from pillar to post for justice.
The meeting demanded release of their pending dues as early as possible as the hapless retirees are unable to meet their daily expenses including cost of the medicines needed to avoid the old age ailments. The meeting said many retirees are at the verge of starvation as they have no source of income while many are unable to solemnize the marriage ceremonies of their grown up daughters as the authorities have failed to pay retirement dues to them including earned salaries for several years.
The meeting said that the Association has decided to highlight the issue before May 15 through press conference and turn attention of authorities towards their plight.
The Association warned that after opening of tenders on May 15 for disinvestment of JK Cements the release of dues in favour of retired employees may get delayed so the Association will be constrained to launch agitation in coordination with J&K Pensioners Welfare Federation and Senior Citizens Society. The Association has urged the Government to release the retirement benefits in favour of the retirees by paying budgetary support or out of plan funds. It also decided to approach the Managing Director once again in this regard to seek his personnel intervention in the matter.
Meanwhile, veteran trade unionist and chairman Pensioners and Senior Citizens Welfare Society, Mir Ghulam Rasool Batvini has expressed serious concern over stoic silence adopted by the Government over the plight of the retired and serving employees of JK Cements on whose fate no decision has been taken for last many years.
He warned that the working class will be forced to come to streets in case the demands of the retired as well as serving employees of JK Cements are not settled as most of them are at the verge of starvation.
