Srinagar, May 3 : Security forces today foiled an infiltration bid by neutralizing two militants in the Machil sector along Line of Control (LoC).

Srinagar based Defence spokesman said that based on a specific intelligence input provided by SSP Kupwara of likely infiltration from one of the militant launch pads across the Line of Control towards Machil sector, troops were put on high alert.
“A well-coordinated counter infiltration grid was put in place in this rugged and extremely difficult area. A number of additional ambushes including those of Indian Army and SOG Kupwara were placed along the likely routes of infiltration. The alert troops in ambushes braved continuous bad weather marked by incessant rainfall, poor visibility and significant drop in temperature for two consecutive nights. Early morning May 3 at around 8.30 militants were sighted by the troops having infiltrated onto their own side of the Line of Control. Intense firefight ensued resulting in elimination of two [militants]”, he said.
He said that the bodies of two militants have been recovered along with two AK series rifles, magazines and huge quantities of war-like stores. “Further extensive search of the area is under progress,” he said.
“This successful intelligence-based operation is yet another example of close synergy between Indian Army, JKP and all agencies. The security forces stand steadfast to defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements supported by our adversary to disrupt peace and harmony of the area”, he added.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman, said that all the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. “In this regard, police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
He said that ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar appreciated the role of joint forces for tracking and neutralizing the intruders to defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements who are hellbent to disrupt peace and harmony in the Valley.
The spokesman said that Kumar also appreciated the joint teams for displaying highest degree of synergy and coordination which led to the elimination of two infiltrators and averted a big threat.
