JAMMU, May 4: Jammu Smart City Ltd organized a workshop-cum-demonstration on food fortification here today.
As per a statement, the workshop was conducted to address the issue of malnutrition in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Food fortification is a scientifically proven, cost-effective, scalable, and sustainable intervention that addresses the issue of micronutrient deficiencies. Jammu Smart City is taking various initiatives under the Eat Right campaign to create awareness regarding safe, healthy, and sustainable dietary food habits among citizens.
The chief guest, Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Billawaria launched the workshop and emphasized the need to sensitize the stakeholders and the public in general at the mass level to take this movement to every household. Ward No 52 Corporator/ Ex-chairman, Ajay Gupta, who was the guest of honour, appreciated the JSCL’s initiative for carrying out this campaign at the grassroot level.
The program was designed to highlight the essentials of food fortification and what further steps can be taken to sensitize the general public at the mass level.
Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma, Nodal Officer, Eat Right Initiatives, Jammu Smart City Ltd introduced the program. CDPO, Gandhi Nagar, Dr Sakshi Mahajan shared facts about the impact of malnutrition on health and other related concerns due to nutrition deficiencies and thanked JSCL for conducting this workshop for ICDS Supervisors and Anganwadi workers.
Satish Kumar, an IEC consultant from Mavis IT Services Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi presented a detailed presentation on the “Role of IEC in Food Fortification awareness” highlighting the use of information and communication technology in raising awareness.
Associate Professor, Ashwani Khajuria and Dr Divya Sharma delivered presentations on various facets of food fortification practices and nutrition values. The students from Bharat Public High School, Satwari, demonstrated the facets of Food Fortification and explained the activities they are doing in school to implement this topic.
Sakshi Mahajan delivered the vote of thanks to conclude the workshop.
