Srinagar, May 6: A devastating fire engulfed two residential houses in the Aali Kadal area today, resulting in the tragic death of a 55-year-old woman and causing severe damage to the properties involved.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing incident, revealing that upon learning of the fire, they were informed that a woman was still trapped inside one of the houses, unable to escape to safety.
“We made desperate attempts to rescue her, but the intense flames thwarted our efforts. We even broke the window panes in an attempt to reach her in time, but unfortunately, we were unsuccessful,” said Latief Ahmad, a local resident.
The woman, identified as Nafeeza, was reportedly in the kitchen when the fire broke out, rendering her unable to evacuate.
Locals speculated that her tragic demise might have been due to suffocation, as she had visual impairments. Tragically, Nafeeza and her husband had plans to perform Hajj this year.
According to officials from the Fire & Emergency Services Department, the fire originated in a three-storey residential house, which was completely destroyed. “One side of another residential house suffered significant damage as a result of the blaze.”
