POONCH, May 7: Ahead of G-20 engagements scheduled this month, a high-level meeting of Civil, Police and Army authorities was held today here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary.
The DC took an elaborate review of security arrangements, status of construction of bunkers in the district and other issues pertaining to the security.
During the meeting, Police representatives informed that the police have been regularly conducting the verification of outside workers working at stone crushers, petrol pumps and other establishments and regular checking of persons is also being conducted at fence gates.
They further informed the chair about the overall scenario of drug abuse in the district and measures taken to curb the menace. It was further intimated that in a stringent action against drug peddlers during the current calendar year, 22 FIRs have been registered, 38 persons have been arrested during the action against drug peddling activities and the district Police books the persons found involved in drug peddling under NDPS Act and PSA.
The meeting was further informed that activities under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan are being carried out by the Social Welfare Department, while special awareness camps under Aapki Zamin Aapki Nigrani are being organised by the Revenue Department.
After threadbare discussion, the chair directed tehsildars to conduct an exercise to assess whether there has been any demographic change in the areas adjoining the border villages LoC.
Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development and Executive Engineer PW(R&B) Department Poonch intimated the Status of construction of Bunkers in areas adjoining the LoC.
The Assistant Commissioner Development Poonch was directed to ensure completion of pending bunkers within 02 months, while Executive Engineer PWD(R&B) would ensure the same within 15 days.
The ACR was directed to resolve the land related issues/if any, in the matter, while Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch was directed to Monitor/Supervise the entire exercise.
The concerned Tehsildars were asked to furnish the information regarding worship places in border villages.
It was observed that Mughal Road shall be declared open for movement of traffic soon and accordingly the army representatives were requested to strengthen their post at Poshana in the interest of overall security and ensuring least inconvenience to common people.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to take strictest action against those found involved in drug peddling or any other social ailments. He also stressed on the coordination among civil departments, security and intelligence agencies for maintaining peace in the district.
The meeting was attended by ADC, Tahir Mustafa Malik; ACR, Zaheer Ahmed Kaifi; CPO, Maqsood Ahmed; ACD, Abid Hussain Shah; Tehsildar (HQ), Jahangir Hussain; XEN R&B, besides officers of Indian Army, BSF and other intelligence agencies.
