Srinagar, May 7: Security forces today averted a major tragedy by apprehending a militant associate along with 5-6 kilogramme of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
A Police spokesman said that security forces arrested a militant associate along with an IED weighing 5-6kg in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. He said that with his arrest a major tragedy was averted. He has been identified as Ishfaq Ahmed Wani of Arigam Pulwama.
A case has been registered and investigation started.
In another incident, an ex-militant turned militant associate was arrested along with a grenade in Kupwara district today.
A police spokesman said that in a joint action, Kupwara police along with Army has arrested an ex-militant turned OGW from Kralpora area of the district along with a grenade. He said that during the investigation it was found that the grenade was to be thrown at the security convoy.
He said that acting on specific intelligence generated by Kupwara police, a joint Naka was established at Main Market Karlpora by Kupwara Police and Army Camp Panzgam. During the Naka checking, the OGW moving in suspicious circumstances trying to evade the presence of naka personnel was apprehended, from whose possession one grenade was recovered.

He has been identified as Rafiq Ahmad Khan son of Habib Ullah Khan, a resident of Waterkhani Drugmulla Kupwara.
Rafiq is a surrendered Pakistan trained militant who is now working as an OGW for militant outfit HM. During preliminary investigations, he has revealed that the grenade was received by him from Chogul area of Handwara and was to be delivered to someone in Kralpora area on the instructions of his Pakistan based HM handler to be thrown at security forces.
“Case under relevant provisions of UA(P) Act has been registered in Police Station Kralpora and investigations taken up,” police said.
