JAMMU, May 8: The National Secular Forum (NSF) has demanded that the Health Centre on Jammu University Campus should function round the clock.
Addressing a press conference, NSF Jammu District President Vikshay Vashist alleged lack of seriousness in functioning of the Health Centre , which has virtually become defunct due to casual approach of the university authorities.
“Every year, the University collects lakhs of rupees in the shape of fee from the students for health facilities, but the money is not being utilized properly,” he said and alleged that the Health Centre doesn’t provide medicines nor does the Health Centre have Machine Operators to handle X-ray Machine, ultrasound Machine and ECG Machine etc. Due to non availability of Operators since last five year, these equipments are gathering dust, he added.
Vashist further alleged that in the JU Health Centre, medicines are given to the patients without the prescriptions of doctors by the pharmacist of their own sweet will. This irregularity reflects the mess created in the Health Centre at the cost of ailing staff and students entering there to seek medical attention/treatment.
“Moreover on Saturday, the Health Centre remains open from 9 AM to 5 PM, but the doctor on duty does not attend on Saturday, thus making a mockery of the health services in the university Health Centre,” he added.
University President Roshan Sharma also said that the Health Center should remain functional for twenty four hours so that the students in the hostel do not suffer for want of availability of doctors and para medical staff. He said there is urgency for early upgradation, proper regulation and well management for smooth running of Health Center on the campus.
Among those, who were present in the press conference, included, Abhishek Uppal, Aditya Khajuria, Tufail Reyaz Khan, Punnet Bakshi and Aditiya Sharma.
