FONL appeals Govt to reconsider amendments in Roshni Act

JAMMU, Nov 29: The Forum of Occupants of Nazool Lands (FONL) has appealed the Government to reconsider amendments in Roshni Act before referring them to the Cabinet for approval.
The chairman of FONL, Inderjeet Khajuria, said that the Government has created trouble in regularizing State lands under Roshni Act as the lease holders are not financially in a position to pay such heavy costs and have no other alternative but to launch agitation for achieving justice.
He further said that the lease holders are legally in possession of Nazool lands. They have paid premium and are regularly paying ground rent since more that 50-60 years.
The Government at a time had agreed to review and reconstitute the Price Fixation Committee with a member from FONL but the recent amendments proposed in the Roshni Act have disappointed the affected members and instead of providing relief Govt has forced further hike of 5 % in the rates fixed by the Committee which is a grave injustice, Khajuria said, adding the FONL demands that the Govt should charge justified rates.
He demanded that the rate for regularization of land may be fixed at par with the rates of Rs 15000 to 40000 per Kanal, as it was charged from the 13 unathorised colonies regularized by the Govt during 2005. He further demanded that the petty plots of 1 marla for shop and 4 marlas for residential purposes should be exempted from levying cost for regularization.
