DODA, Nov 29: With the aim to create awareness among the elected members of the Panchayats regarding devolution of powers to the Panchayati Raj Institutions, MLC Dr. Shehnaz Ganai today convened a interaction meeting with Sarpanchs and Panchs of the district.
Additional District Development Commissioner Doda, G.N. Balwan, Assistant Commissioner Development Doda, Rakesh Kumar, Tehsildar, besides other officers and Sarpanchs & Panchs also attended the function.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shehnaz enjoined upon all the Sarpanchs and Panchs to work in co-ordinated manner and asked to keep themselves abreast about the powers and functions of the Halqa Panchayat. She said that as per Government order powers and functions of the Panchayats have been defined which include preparation and implementation of plans for the development of Halqa, specifically dealing of various problems of the Halqa like soil conservation, water management, social forestry, rural industrialization, agriculture, sanitation, health & other welfare schemes.
She said that maintenance, operation and supervision of primary schools, medical sub-centres besides village, Panchayat roads, Anganwadi centres, lanes, drains, culverts etc. are also the powers of the Halqa Panchayat.
She asked the officers to create awareness camps for grass root dissemination of powers and function of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
