LEH, May 11: Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh reviewed various Government projects and schemes being implemented in Ladakh during his tour to the Union Teritory.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) accorded a warm welcome to the Union Minister on his arrival at Raj Niwas after the conclusion of the tour to Changthang during which he visited border villages along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) as part of the Central Government’s ‘Vibrant Villages Programme’.
During his meeting with the LG, Giriraj Singh informed him about his visit to Tarchit Phoo, Hemya, Kungyam, Shara and Chuchot Shamma, where he was involved in several activities such as the inauguration of the PGMSY Roads at Tarchit Phoo and Kungyam Dho villages, the inauguration of Amrit Sarovar Tank at Shara, the inauguration of Block Development Office and Chairman Block Development Council Office at Thiksay, interaction with villagers, Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) members, members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), etc.
The Union Minister also reviewed projects and various schemes of Rural Development, National Rural Livelihood Mission, Watershed Development and SVAMITVA along with plans comprising Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, non-farm allied activities with MRLM for the uplifting of the economic households, especially women, with active support from banks.
He informed the LG about the need for the completion of the SVAMITVA scheme on a fast-track basis and the need for effective implementation of the NRLM scheme in rural villages of Ladakh for the benefit of SHGs and women engaged for livelihood opportunities and to make villages self-sustainable to avoid migration of people from the border area villages.
The Union Minister discussed several other development projects/activities with the LG. His suggestions and recommendations were taken due note of for implementation.
Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Secretary, Animal & Sheep Husbandry, Ravinder Kumar; Deputy Commissioner Leh, Shrikant Suse and Director, Rural Development Department, Tahir Hussain were also present in the meeting.
