POONCH, June 19: The forest fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar area created panic among the locals as several mines started exploding with the spreading fire today.
Reports said the fire which started from the PoK side reached on this side of the LOC in the morning. It went on spreading during the day. With the spreading of fire in Deri and Langiot area near LOC, several mines started exploding. The Army authorities sounded alert in the area and also rushed for containing the fire.
They also contacted the local forest authorities. Till this afternoon, nearly 3-4 sq km area was reported to be affected with the fire. Some electronic and communication equipment of the defence authorities also got affected with it. The villagers were also alerted by the authorities and they also joined the army and forest staff to contain fire.
