Srinagar, Nov 29: The students of the Department of Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) performed puppet shows on various social themes in the University’s Magarmal Bagh campus here.
A spokesman of the university said the first semester students performed the shows on issues like female foeticide and child labour in Kashmir. Other shows included a story about a rape victim and an English language adaptation of Anton Chekov’s short story “Enemy”.
The shows were directed by Dr. John Babu, an expert in puppetry and in charge of the subject that covers folk media.
“As desired by Prof. Abdul Wahid, the Vice-Chancellor of CUK, the Department of Convergent Journalism is also planning to conduct outreach programmes to create awareness on social ills through puppetry,” said Shahnaz Bashir, coordinator of the department.
