Awareness program on PICU mgmt organized in SMGS Hospital

JAMMU, May 12: Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu organized an awareness program to spread awareness about PICU management and to share knowledge about sepsis: its prevention, social determinants, early recognition and management in SMGS Hospital.
Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, she highlighted the importance of PICU management in saving life of critically ill patients. She said this section of the Hospital provides sick children with the highest level of medical care and the team of Peditricians, Nursing staff and other support staff under the supervision of HoD Pediatrics Professor Dr Ghanshyam Saini is doing excellent work and providing optimum care to the patients.
HoD Pediatrics, Professor (Dr) Ghanshyam Saini apprised the gathering that the theme for this year World PICU awareness is “Prevention and Control of Sepsis”. He mentioned that the PICU facility started in this Institution in 2017 as a 2 bedded facility, which is now with the support of the Government has increased to a 17-bedded facility which include 10 ventilator beds. He further informed that Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate attention and treatment in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
During the program, Pediatric resident doctor, Dr Twinkle delivered talk on PICU management and prevention and control of Sepsis. On the occasion, gifts were distributed amongst the survivors who have been managed in the PICU in SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
Proceedings of this event were conducted by Dr Chandani Slathia (Senior Resident, Pediatrics) and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Surjeet Kumar (Lecturer, Pediatrics).
