SRINAGAR, May 13: Army foiled an infiltration bid by militants along Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district early today.
“A group of intruders while attempting to cross Line of Control, were engaged in an exchange of fire with the alert troops, resulting in a failed attempt to intrude into Kashmir valley”, Srinagar based Defence spokesman said here.
“A quadcopter flown by the Pakistan army to the intruders was also spotted across the Line of Control and was fired at, forcing it to withdraw”, he added.
“This desperate action by the intruders, duly abetted by the Pakistan army, is yet another failed attempt to disrupt the G20 Summit and create disturbance in the Valley”, the Defence spokesman added.
“Extensive search operations are underway in the densely forested area”, he added.
However, an official said that there is every possibility that they have fled back but the troops are taking no chances.
An official said that they have been witnessing movement of militants on the launch pads across in PoJK for last couple of months. He said that Pakistan is desperate to send militants into Kashmir ahead of G20 tourism group meet.
He said that the troops deployed on the LoC have seen at least six militants at Kharanjan opposite to Nowgam sector in Handwara area of Kupwara district, at least five militants in Lippa valley opposite to Tanghdar sector and at least seven militants in Bagh area of PoJK opposite Uri in Baramulla district.
The official said that they are desperate to infiltrate and are supported by the Pakistan army. He, however, said that the Indian army is keeping tight vigil along the LoC to prevent any infiltration.
The official said that the Army troops along the LoC have been conducting regular patrols near the fence and in the nearby forest area to ensure that no infiltrated militant gets out into hinterland.
