Compensate losses of vegetable, fruit crops: Pathania

UDHAMPUR, May 15: Spokesperson J&K BJP, Ranbir Singh Pathania has demanded immediate compensation for losses to vegetable as well as fruit growers of Udhampur especially those belonging to Chenani, Dudu Basantgarh and Panchari areas.
Addressing a grievance redressal programme in Udhampur he called for assessing the crop losses and compensating the affected growers.
“A crisis-like situation is prevailing in many villages of Udhampur where incessant rains have caused heavy losses to ripe crops of vegetables and fruits,” Pathania said adding: “Given the situation in view of unprecedented hailstorms and rainfall in Chenani, Dudu, Basantgarh, Latti, Panchari, Moungri and other parts of Udhampur and in the absence of government help, the situation is grave.”
He also said that Horticulturists have suffered major losses as their fruit crops of apple, peach, amla etc have totally been spoiled and the farmers as well as horticulturists are on the brink of financial crisis.
Interacting with prominent vegetable growers of Chenani, he said that Chenani can be developed as a vegetable hub and called for promoting high density walnut and apple varieties in these areas.
Jattu Ram, DDC Ramnagar-II and Pinky Devi DDC Latti Marothi were also present on the occasion.
