Drug smuggler booked under PIT NDPS Act

SRINAGAR, May 15: Police today booked a notorious drug smuggler under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla while a drug peddler was also arrested in Kulgam.
“The notorious drug peddler Barkat Ali Mian alias Raja son of Mohammad Maqbool Mian resident of Mian Mohalla Pattan has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority,” police said.
Police said that the booked drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu. “Many cases were registered against the said drug smuggler and was involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Pattan and other areas of District Baramulla.”
Despite his involvement in many FIRs, police said, he did not mend his activities and was again involved in promoting the drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
Meanwhile in Kulgam, a police party of PS Qaimoh at a checkpoint established near Khudwani Bypass, arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Hassan Dar son of Mohd Ismail Dar resident of Turka Tachloo.
“During the search, officers were able to recover 9 kgs of Poppy Straw and 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, concealed in a polythene bag from his possession. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.”
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered and an investigation was initiated.
