JAMMU, May 15: Remembering freedom fighter Sukhdev Thapar on his birth anniversary today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member, Raman Suri said that Sukhdev’s sacrifice for India’s independence can never be forgotten and such days, be it birth anniversary or martyrdom day of our national heroes, will continue to remind us of their supreme sacrifice and also inspire each and every individual to love his country more than anything else.
Having joined the Indian Independence Movement, Sukhdev was martyred along with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru, he said.
Raman Suri said, Sukhdev’s fight against the British Government for the freedom of India, besides being historic, patriotic and exemplary in nature, played an important role in bringing India out of the era that was marred with oppression and suppression. Being the members of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), when heroes like Sukhdev, Shivaram Rajguru and Bhagat Singh were executed on March 23, 1931 at Lahore, it kindled a spirit of fight against Britishers which ultimately led to India’s independence in 1947.
