JAMMU, May 18: The protest launched by Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) and Soan Kashmir Front (SKF) opposing charging of power bills on Kashmiri migrants putting up in various camps at Jammu entered the fifth day today.
The protest was held under the chairmanship of Shadi Lal Pandita president JTC and SKF.
Pandita while addressing the protestors said that the order passed by the Government for the migrants living in camps to pay electricity bills is completely unfair as the displaced people from Valley dependent on meager cash doles from Government are even unable to make their both ends meet and hence can’t afford power or other bills.
He said migrants are on roads since the order was issued by the Government. He said it is not known why the Government is ignoring the plight of displaced Hindus from Kashmir who have lost their entire movable and immovable property after they were forced to flee from their homes and hearths.
Pandita said instead of harassing the migrants and ignoring their plight the Government should take steps for their one time settlement in Valley in accordance to the geo-political aspirations of the community.
He said being the peace loving and law abiding community Pandits have always respected the Government orders but it was due to the follies of the successive governments that they became refuges in their own country.
He said it is a pity that the Government in last 33 years has failed to rehabilitate the community in Kashmir with honour and dignity. He warned that migrants will continue protest till order is revoked and also reiterated his demand of settling the community back in the Valley in accordance to its geo-political aspirations. He also demanded enhancement of relief from Rs 13000 to Rs 25,000.
Others who participated in the protest included Kashi Nath Bhat , Ravinder Koul, Sunil Koul, Mohan Krishan Tickoo, Inder Ji Labroo, P N Koul, Shauban Raina , Satish Pandita,Vijay Bakshi, Raja Ji , Ramesh Suri , Rajinder Kumar Suri, etc.
